Carnival Cruise Line Implements New Travel Document Requirements

REAL ID Act to Come into Effect on May 3, 2023

Effective May 3, 2023, the REAL ID Act will require all passengers boarding domestic flights within the United States to present a REAL ID-compliant document. A REAL ID is a state-issued driver's license or identification card that meets federal security standards.

Cruise Passengers Affected by New Regulations

Carnival Cruise Line has announced that it will require all guests to present a passport or other REAL ID-compliant document for cruises that include a visit to Colombia or Greenland. This is because both countries require passports for entry.

Alternative Forms of Identification Not Accepted

Carnival will not accept driver's licenses or medical cards as forms of identification for boarding. Guests who do not have a passport or other REAL ID-compliant document will be denied boarding.

Importance of Proper Documentation

"Our policy states that any guest traveling without proper documentation will be denied boarding the ship and will be responsible for all associated costs," said Carnival in a statement. "We strongly encourage our guests to make sure they have the necessary documentation well in advance of their cruise."
